The turn of the century has seen house music take over the airwaves of our beloved radio stations and the dance floors in our distinctive clubs. The genre is here to stay.
International Dj’s and virtuosos of the house genre have flocked to Mzansi shores for musical events across the country. These include the likes of Little Louie Vega (of Elements Of Life Fame) and Franck Roger, among others.
Their visits to our beautiful haven south of the equator has offered our ears encounters with house music was made popular by the club scene in Chicago in the early 1980’s.
This influence led to the creation of Collen Mmotla popularly known in music circles as Chymamusique. Born and bred in the small mining town of Burgersfort, Chymamusique had a zest for music and joined a local jazz club as pianist and later became a drummer, all at a young age.
His Limpopo musings has given him unique musical knowledge and authentic background which culminates into the good producer he is today.
In 2011, thanks to the successes of winning various remix competitions, Chymamusique started being noticed for his talent and knack to produce. As a result he started getting involved with musical projects together with other industry heavyweights.
In 2014 he was a finalist on the SABC 1 reality DJ show aimed at unearthing new and untapped talents within the music industry, the same year his first in-studio Gift of Sound album was realised.
The album has enjoyed airplay both on commercial and community radio stations. The project was released and marketed by his own company Chymamusique Records which boasts heavyweight talents such Brazo Wa Afrika, Fortee, Dvine Brothers, John Lundun, Miz Dee and Tekniq.
2015 started like a house on fire for Chymamusique, who received a nomination in Prestigious 14th Metro FM Music Awards (the second biggest music awards in South Africa) under the category Best New Artist.
Nominated in the same category are the likes of Dr Malinga, Musa, Duncan and DJ Dimplez, this promises to be a tough one.
When equating this category and its nominees to football, it would be the “Group Of Death”.
The awards ceremonies takes place on 27th February 2015 at Inkosi Albert Luthili ICC, Durban Kwazulu Natal brought to you by BP, the City of Durban and Amstel.
“Being nominated for a Metro FM Award, makes me feel motivated because it shows that South Africans appreciate my work,” says Chyma.
At present all music produced under his label is being sold online via download and can accessed on major music online retailers like Junodownload.co.uk, traxxsource.com and Beatport.com.
In the Future, you can expect a massive compilation album which will be made up of music from Chymamusique Records.
Until then, the focus is on driving all efforts and energy towards the labels released material and of course getting the masses to vote for the best new comer category in the forthcoming 14th Metro FM Awards.
